Ready for a
little romance? Join us for one of our monthly Speed Dating events at the
Landing. It is a safe and secure way to meet new people. You will have a great
time... and who knows you might just meet that someone
special.
Rules of the Game
The rules of speed dating
are quite simple. A group of singles gathers at the Landing at Fort Harrison.
Armed with a name tag, a scorecard and their sparkling personality, couples are
paired up to begin their first date. They are allowed to discuss anything,
except their careers, or where the live.
Following five minutes of conversation, the MC will let you know
to change seats, and the greater number of the same gender (usually women) move
on to meet their next date. Think of it as a flirt's version of musical
chairs.
Following each date, participants mark on a card whether they
would have an interest in meeting their date again. If a mutual interest is
noted, speed-dating organizers provide each party with the others phone
number.
But Does Speed Dating Work?
Speed dating has
proven to be fairly successful, with approximately half of all participants
coming away with a potential match.
Check In:
Plan to
arrive at least 30 minutes before the official start time to sign-in and mingle.
If you have preregistered online please have your confirmation printed and
bring it to the event. We will begin promptly at 7:00pm.
Waiting to Speed Date:
To ensure
an even balance of men and women, the greater number of the same gender will be
asked to rotate from table to table. Feel free to mix and mingle with the other
participants while you wait to move back into rotation. It is your
responsibility to keep track of your place in the rotation.
The Big
Event!
At each event,
there will be an unequal number of men and women. We facilitate the whole thing
so you are guaranteed to meet everyone. We will give each participant a Welcome
Pack, including a name tag (with your first name and a number only) and Score
Card. The Oasis bar will be available for soft drinks or something stiffer
(please drink responsibly).
We will review the Ground Rules a few
minutes before the start time…you do not disclose your last name, where you live
or work, phone number, etc. Nor do you ask someone out during the event
itself…no pressure!
It's a
Match! (or two, or three, or
more...)
After the
event, we will compile the information from everyone's Score Cards to determine
who matches up. If two people mutually checked “YES,” then that's a match (odds
are you'll have one or more matches). You'll receive a private e-mail within
three days of the event listing the first names and e-mail addresses or phone
numbers of the people you matched with. From there, it's up to you to contact
one another to learn more about each other and set up another
date.
Cost = $15 at the door. Online registration no longer available.
